Sermon August 11, 2007 : Come to the party and enjoy God’s love

We’ll be looking at Luke 15. The pastor spoke from this a few weeks ago and so we’ll be following up on where he started. Luke 15, if you’re not there, just listen closely, Luke 15, and I’m going to start by reading the first couple of verses, because they set the tone for the whole chapter, ok, Luke 15, verse 1 and 2, it says:  Read More »

Sermon August 4, 2007 : Yoked to Jesus

All right, let’s go to the word immediately, and I’d like to invite you to come with me to the Book of Mark, the gospel according to Mark. Actually these were some thoughts that I has going to share with… let’s go to chapter 6, by the way, beginning with verse 30. I was going to share some of these thoughts at the last session of our retreat as a parts of a visioning kind of thing and didn’t get the chance because we had a lot of other material to go through, but I’d like to share about this passage in terms of a, what kind of church do we want to be? What kind of church God needs in this time of history and in this place, in this city? What kind of people do we want to be?  Read More »

Sermon July 28, 2007 : God is faithful

God’s faithfulness. I don’t remember which chorus it was, but it was one that speaks of the faithfulness of Jesus and of God and his standing with us every step of the way, his support for us, his never ending ownership of our lives and of our process of salvation, the journey of salvation, that assurance that we have in God. I want to flow with that theme so I changed and I believe this is a spirit lead my topic and I want to….. let’s go to the book of Romans, chapter 8, I think it’s a good place to begin. As we celebrate the Lord, as we’ve exalted him, we’ve worshiped him because of his goodness, his faithfulness, his mercy, his steadfast love us. It’s so good to take that opportunity also to see where the grounding, the scriptural grounding of what we have just proclaimed here, where it lies and to reinforce in us that sense of assurance, of God’s goodness. So, chapter 8 of Romans stands in my mind as the essential document, if you will, of the assurance of every believer, the foundation that we have of confidence in the Lord, in our calling as believers.  Read More »

Sermon July 21, 2007 : Do you have access to God?

I was recently visiting Memphis, Tennessee. I grew up in Memphis, Tennessee, my family is there, my parents are there, my brothers and sisters, aunts and uncles, I got to see a lot of people, but to my surprise one person I didn’t expect to see that I did see was a friend, Matt Daniels. Now, Matt is a missionary in Montevideo, Uruguay, so he was up in Memphis visiting his family. His dad actually is sick but it provided an opportunity for he and I to get together and just be friends again. I hadn’t seen him in probably 4 four years, but he used to be a very special person in my life. He was somewhat of a mentor for me and helped as I was growing in my faith and growing in ministry and all the other things that are wrapped up in that. So I really appreciated seeing him.  Read More »

Sermon July 14, 2007 : The importance of listening well

God is always speaking in some way and the question is, are we listening? I want to look at one example in the Book of Acts, chapter 10. I’m going to look at the example of the Apostle Peter allowing himself to be taught or spoken to by the Lord, and that is one example because it combines a few different modes of God communicating.  Read More »

Sermon July 7, 2007 : Grace - Give it and receive it

I hope you had a good week as well, it’s good to have you here tonight. Let me ask you to come with me to the word of the Lord and let’s go into the gospel of Luke, chapter 15, and I’d like to share with you such a well-known parable that really it’s a challenge just to add anything new to it. You know, one of the good things about the word of God is that you can read the same message, you can preach the same message for many, many times and yet there’s always something new that comes out of the word of the Lord, it’s inexhaustible, it really is.  Read More »

Sermon June 16, 2007 : Ephesians 6

Let’s go to the word of the Lord in Ephesians, and I think I’m going to be finishing tonight this lame feet journey through Ephesians. And actually I will end where I started, because many months back, when I was beginning to preach in the context of the English service, I started with this passage and you might remember. I’ve said it before, I know, that having started with this passage of Ephesians chapter 6, I said, well, this is such a powerful epistle, it has always captivated me and intrigued me and so I decided, let’s just go through the whole epistle and since it contains so many foundational truths, let’s just comb through the book and it’s taken us many, many months to finish.  Read More »

These are some of my heroes and they’re heroes that are not too often talked about and that’s why I was looking forward to this. So, Acts, chapter 4, we’re just going to read verse 36 and 37, Libro de los Hechos, versículo 36 y 37.  Read More »

Sermon June 2, 2007 : Luke 5 - My boat belongs to Jesus

Tonight I want to lead you to chapter 5 of Luke, the gospel according to Saint Luke and the reason tomorrow I’m going to be giving a presentation at our daughter’s Baccalaureate service, Abigail, our youngest daughter is graduating from Boston Trinity Academy and they’re having a service for the graduates at Boston University, and they’ve asked to bring the Baccalaureate message, and I felt of the Lord to issue a challenge to the young people who are graduating about living passionately and fully and in a committed way for the Lord.  Read More »
